Original Sin

I've just started doing a final read-through/edit of book four in the Lilith Mercury: Werewolf Hunter Series. I actually wrote the book last year. I remembered what I thought of Marco and Dracula. But I had somehow managed to forget what writing about them makes me feel.

Particularly, Dracula. That vampire has long been a part of my imagination. When I was old enough to realize what a fantasy was, mine were filled with images of him.

Marco was more of a spontaneous creation. For those who don't know, he was originally supposed to be the villain. But the moment I put him on paper I fell in love with him. He was meant to be so much more.

Most of the time, when people ask me who I would chose if I were Lilith ... I honestly can't decide. You'd think it would be easy for me to answer, since technically, I am Lilith. Her character is based on me and she's just as indecisive.

I've felt like shit all day. LOL Blunt, but true. And since I can't have chocolate (long story) Dracula is the next best thing. So, if you were to ask me today ... I'd have to take the vampire ... at least for a little while.

Busy, busy, busy

That's what I've been lately. I just realized it had been nearly a week since my last post and said, "Holy crap! People will think I've disappeared." LOL

I've been working on a final edit of Bitten. Yes, for those of you keeping up with it, this is the book with the vampire foursome:) I've got 80 pages to go before I send this one off to my publisher.

It shouldn't take me that long. Finding the time is the only real challenge. See, my son likes video games and so do I. At the moment we're trying to kick each other's butt on Soul Calibur III. LOL I know, I know, prioritize here people.

Some days, writing and/or editing is a top priority. And other days, playing video games with my son before he's old enough to think I'm "uncool" is at the top of my list.

Behind the creation of Netherworld.

I’m still stoked over the release of my first novel titled Dark Sentinel a paranormal romance. And the launch of my series site Netherworld.
http://nether-world.net/ the back drop for Dark Sentinel. While Netherworld offers a new romance with every installment it’s a dark, foreboding world. I mixed a little horror and urban fantasy elements into the series.

Sometimes authors have real clear ideas of what’s in store for their characters and worlds. Other times details come more slowly.

Netherworld sparked to life with a whispered word. Redemption. What’s necessary in the process of redeeming? What kind of act would redemption take? This led to my central concept. The forsaken. The forgotten. And with that concept I just knew I wanted a world with multi dimensional layers like that of the Dark-Hunter world of Sherrilyn Kenyon. I wanted a world I could build on and expand as the series unfolded.

For a more in-depth inspiration, I was struck by one of my early college classes and one of my very favorite pieces of literature. Dante’s Inferno. This story is truly a masterpiece! I read it three times before the semester was up. The premise of Dante’s Inferno stuck with me from the first reading. Truly fascinating! Imagine circles in Hell. As I was toying with Dark Sentinel’s premise another story came to mind. One written by Kate Hill centered on a demon. Demons! Yes! I needed demons! I wanted lots and lots of demons. I nearly flipped my computer chair over when Pinhead from Cliver Barker’s Hellraiser popped into my head for a visit. Truly, this is not a character you want to know intimately. And neither is my Dark Prince. Seriously a purely evil being. My muse was in Heaven as the bits and pieces of Netherworld started falling into order.

Once I had a partial done for Dark Sentinel Netherworld literally spilt wide opened while I was in an Ohio hotel in June of 06. Working with pen in paper story plots poured out. I honestly didn’t see the dark world coming until it was there. The next day, I had an impulsive pitch to Samhain Publishing. I still remember my Netherworld unfolding during my live pitch to Christina Brashear nearly two years ago. Christina was absolutely fabulous while I was absolutely nervous!
Now thanks to Samhain Netherworld has come alive. So do you believe in redemption?

Any other name

I love roses. I know I've mentioned loving to garden before. (That is, when I'm not writing.) So, today I thought I'd share some recent pictures of my roses.

This is a Eutin floribuna. My dad gave it to me a few years ago and this was its first bloom of the season:)

This is a thornless climbing Queen Anne. It grows over an arch in my front yard. (Yes, just like the one Lilith has:)

My climbing Don Juan isn't nearly as impressive as the one in the books. It's stubbly little ass grows in the backyard. LOL

Red is in Realms of Fantasy!

Red is featured in the current issue of Realms of Fantasy Magazine:) When you get a chance to check it out, I'm on page 28. Since I live in the middle of nowhere, I had a little trouble getting my hands on a copy. Lucky for me it's a bi-monthly magazine. This is the June 2008 issue which has been out since April.

So anyway, I got a copy this weekend and showed it to everybody who would hold still long enough. LOL What can I say? It's the first magazine I've been in. I was excited.

What's your vampire name?

In light of yesterday's movie rant, I thought we could all (especially me LOL) use something more fun. I don't like to post negative things, so I don't do it often. It makes me feel bad. Simple as that.

So, today's blog is about vampire names. Here's what the name generator said about me and my husband.

My vampire name:

The Great Archives determine you to have gone by the identity:
Genevieve Tussaud
Known in some parts of the world as: Athene of The Winged Death
The Great Archives Record:
Comes on silent wings in the night and wraps a deadly cloak about the victim; impartial as a die, unyielding as stone.

My husband's vampire name:

The Great Archives determine you to have gone by the identity:
Uriel Tussaud
Known in some parts of the world as: Metatron of The Highway Thieves

The Great Archives Record:
Takes more than gold from the rich on the highway - takes blood too.

Okay, so mine is pretty creepy, but I got a kick out of his, "takes blood too," ILMAO.
Put in your friend's names too and see what it comes up with. Be warned, you could easily waste five minutes or more playing with this generator.
Have fun.

Kissa Starling - Featured Author

Kissa Starling has enjoyed the written word from a young age. She started writing and drawing her own stories, on her mother's walls, around three years old. She moved from crayons and walls onto watercolors and ink when she went to art school in Savannah, Georgia. It wasn't until a few summers ago that the thought of submitting her adult stories for publication became a consideration.

One contest call and off she went, writing furiously each day and just knowing it would be accepted. That first story came back with a page long rejection. Detailed revisions were listed and a call to resubmit. Looking back it was a great first submission, but at the time it was devastating. Kissa put that first story aside and went on to write more stories which only took a few short months to get published.

The erotic romance has been flying from her fingertips ever since then. She currently has one story out with Whiskey Creek Press Torrid http://www.whiskeycreekpress.com/torrid/ called Love Angel. It is part of the 'My Funny Valentine' anthology. This book is available in both ebook and print.

She will release a short erotic story, Profiling, this summer. This is an audio story that you download and listen to! Kissa also writes custom erotica for individuals and couples. This makes a great gift anytime of the year.

Kissa recently signed a contract with Alyson Books. Her story, The Brown Boobies, will be one of many included in their 'Island Girls' lesbian print anthology coming out soon. Her story Geisha Girl will be part of the Asian Spice print anthology coming out with Atria Books.

This writer always has several works in progress and submissions being read by various publishers. Most of her writing is done in the evening after the rest of the family is asleep, and quiet. She spends most of her time playing with her family and pets in her home state of Georgia. She also reads, writes, does yoga, meditates, and reviews books when she has the time. She currently reviews for Literary Nymphs, Dark Diva Reviews, and Fantasy Bookspot.
